Our coop story: Since we are beginners and we have been researching chickens, keeping chickens and all that jazz for awhile, we decided we would start out small and build our own coop. Which I'd picked out an affordable one for our budget, one my bf and I could build together, and would handle the 6-10 hens we wanted to start out with.
Weeeeelllllll...........
Then what some people would call chicken math, or as my bf says chicken shenanigans caught up with me. Next thing I know we have 14 chickens in our backyard, 8 in the basement, and 26 coming in the mail......... and NO COOP!

So we made temporary pens for the 14 in the backyard, a brooder for the 8 in the basement and the 26 coming in the mail. We put a rush on the making of the coop and started seriously scrapping funds together. In the midst of this, a dear friend offered us their coop that was no longer being used, for a small price (less than what we were going to payout to build one and 5x's as big). So we agreed for the bigger cheaper coop.
Wellllllll...... it is 8x10 and 10ft tall, given we were going to have to move it over 45 miles, and it was so tall we had to contract someone to move it for us. We called and set it up to have it moved, and then we waited, and waited, and waited. A month later and several phone calls later, the guy moving it finally set a date for Monday, well then Monday comes and no one calls, heard nothing from them. So I call and someone else tells me that it has been postponed till the next day. Grrrr.

Finally Tuesday, we got the call they were going to move it.

We go help him get it loaded and moved. We got home with it in one piece! Wednesday my little brother and I got it all cleaned out, and then got it all set up for my girls and their boys to move in. It needs some minor work, but it is still a great coop! We are planning on painting it (possibly a deep blue with white trim), and sometime before next winter replacing the roof. As far as functionality it works great! Everyone is happy with it, and took to it very quickly. I am sooooooooooo excited!!!

Just had to share!

Thank you all! They seem to love it! Today was their first full day with the coop all to themselves, and as a reward for fixing them up such a nice coop, I got 3 eggs! The most we've got in a day so far! We plan to attach a closed in run at some point, right now I'm content with them having a coop. They have an acre of land around our house, plus an additional 100+ acres of fields they can share with the cattle. But so far they don't go more than a few feet into the fields and pick and the left over silage the cows didn't eat.
