Last August a posted my horror story of my flock being wiped out by a racoon. It was devastating.

Before I could start rebuilding the yard, we traveled for the month of September. Since then I have completely rebuilt the yard (25' deep x 75' wide x 15' h).

I have a coop inside and six new chickens. Took a month to complete the project. Briefly the entire yard, all three sides, is made from hardware cloth. We sunk 2x8 treated wood into the ground and stapled the hardware cloth to the wood which is buried a foot and half deep. See pics.

The coop is from Wooden Wonders and called a Hobbit House chicken coop. It's approximately 5 x 5 x8. Has a big door in the back for clean out and collecting eggs. Cute, eh?

That's a really nice run, I like how tall it is. And your coop is cute. Best of luck with your new flock. What breed of chickens did you get?

Thanks much:

I have two Marans, Two EE's, one Barred Rock and one Golden Sexlink.

All my girls, of course...my pets. They die of old age and then get buried. I'm such a suburban chicken mom.

Yes, it's from Wooden Wonders in Maine. They make all kinds of Hobbit houses.

It came in a crate

I'll get a pic from the back tomorrow and post that as well.

This is the mid-size coop. They also have runs and coops that open from the side.

Obviously I didn't need the run.

I fell in love with this coop as I was noodling around online to find a "kit" to assemble. The last coop we built and it was a pain. With all the kits out there, it seemed easier. When I saw these, there was no going back. Thought about it for a month before I bought it.

Very happy with the service ans quality.

Will take pics tomorrow and post.

Here are pics of the back of the Hobbit Coop as promised.
