Finally have chickens❣️

Hello all,
I’ve wanted chickens since I was a little girl and my wish has finally come true. We moved from the concrete jungle of Southern CA to Washington state. 8 weeks ago we got 4 chicks. We have a Lavender Orpington, Blue Orpington, Speckled Sussex and an Easter Egger. We have a small backyard and eventually will let them free range when they’re bigger. We seriously thinking of getting a rooster to help protect them from our abundant hawk and bald eagle population.
I look forward to learning from everyone on this site.

Good luck.A rooster isn’t going to protect them necessarily.He will warm and guide them safety generally.Although,some roosters will attack predators but usually don’t survive.

Most cities that allow hens do not allow roosters. I have had to re home several here

No way can a rooster defend against a Hawk or Eagle, just means he will be the first to die.
