Finally have my baby chicks yay!!! How old do they have to be before they can be in their coop?

How do you know how old chicks are and when they are ready to be put in their coop? I think they are under or just about 2weeks old but is their a way to tell? Another silly question how do I know what breed they are and if they are a boy or girl:)? Thx again for welcoming me and helping me out I'm so clueless lol
 
Hello from another new member. Your chicks look great. About the age when they can stay in their coop. It depends on the temperature outside (and of course predators and other conditions). I think each week of their life their need for high temperature to keep cool decreases by 5 degrees. So where we live we were told we could them in their coop by the time they were 7 weeks old (by my calculation at that age they would tolerate down to 60 Fahrenheit at the coldest and that was OK where we live, temperature (and inside the coop at night) never falls that low.

Hello! I'm new to the BYC but have had my chickens for about 2 months now. We started the babies off inside about 4 days old and when they got to be about a month we transitioned them to the coop outside with a small heating lamp in the their plastic bin, we'd take them out for a little and place them back every night till well they got use to it and my other older chickens. As far as sexting goes I'm still clueless but can say I read up on things and I guess you might be able to tell on the feet, and the comb. Ugh, I am probably using wrong lingo here...sorry! Also as far as breeds go it can be tricky because baby feathers do change. You can post pics of the babies in one of the forums and I'm sure everyone would help out. Good Luck!!!
 
To find out sex and breed - when they are about 6 weeks old or more - post clear closeup photos at "what breed or gender is this." Good photos from the front showing comb development. Good standing, side view to show other gender related features. Welcome to BYC.
 
Thank You! Will do next time. My older chickens are about 11 to 12 weeks and the babies are about 3 to 4 weeks now.
