After years and years of wanting my own flock and studying them in school, I came home to three wonderful surprises from my boyfriend! They spent the night in our bathroom (making quite a mess haha) so we could get their "new" brooder (a chick proof pigeon trap) ready for them! We went back to the feed store and bought 5 more chicks so we had an even eight! Two of each! Although the feed store employees didn't seem too familiar with breeds. We have two Barred rocks, two Rhode Island Reds (one did die though :[ ) and the other 4... well I asked if our two buff chicks were more rocks or orps (or something!!) and they just simply said " No, they are Buffs"

. Then our two yellow chicks, well, they said that they were Foster Farms broilers. I can tell you 100% that they are NOT broilers at all and did NOT come from Foster Farms. In fact they are starting to look like White Leghorns!

Ultimately, I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you all how excited I am to start raising my own flock and speak chicken with you guys!!!

Welcome, from a new BYC member. Congrats on the new little flock! I get a little frustrated when I buy something and the salesperson has no clue what they are selling ... once they fully feather out, you'll have a better idea of what you have ... and the fun of naming them! (Everyone does that, right??!!)
