I shoot them in the trap with a .22. I don't like doing it but we have lots of them...idiots feed them and they have hundreds, if not thousands of square feet of crawl space under the summer cabins up and down the lake here to live. Once I caught two at the same time and I didn't want one to see the other shot so I wrapped the trap in a tarp, took the shop vac hose and stuffed it in the car exhaust....I think you can see where I'm going with this......
