Here is one of the "babies" in question. I was just sure Francesca was a girl. But that tail coming in is making me second guess myself! I'm thinking "she" may just be a Franc.
I cannot sex by comb with Pea Comb yet. Everything I read about it just confused me more.

The wings with the red sploches of color are another give-a-way. Will Francesc get a name change to Frank or Franco?

Thank you! I am fascinated by the different breeds. My daughter and I would like to add Brahmas and maybe Wyandottes to our flock this spring. Comparing and contrasting their features is such fun.

It's always nice to have a variety, makes for a colorful chicken yard!

Yeah, Frank or Franco. When the feathers just started coming in it was only red patches on the breast. Their momma has bronze-ish patches on her neck and head. Also has the beard and cheeks.

Only one of the three RIR×OE babies came out with RIR down. I was sure she was a girl bc of the prominent chipmunk stripe. But nope. Lucretzia is for sure a Luc.

Checking back in. You would not believe how pretty these boys turned out! Absolutely no regrets about my winter breeding experiment. I do wish I had gotten at least one hen but that's OK! These F2 OEs are beautiful. Boniface has some purple feathers. Franc (Nee Francesca) has a bright red head and neck. They're both beautiful. Luc (Nee Lucretzia) looks like a RIR with a beard and cheeks. They're all so cute!
