Sorry about your losses. I'd suggest electric poultry netting but don't know how effective it would be in the desert without a lot of moisture in the ground for the grounding system and because you are looking to have your chickens forage as large an area as possible. Have you considered investing in a LGD?

Welcome to BYC! So sorry about loosing so much of your flock! I love the fact that you have so many cats! We had two of our own here but one got hit by a car. There are now three other strays we feed so a total of four cats! We had ALWAYS said we wouldn’t get cats but a friend found a stray kitten in need of help. The rest is history!
