I am happy to say I finally joined. I have been reading and learning since I got my chickens in March. I am the mom of 5 happy adolescent chickens, 2.5 months old now. I have an Ameracauna named Robin. She is the leader. She is flighty, the protector, and gives the warning when danger is near. I was unsure of her at first when she was so flighty as a chick. Now I see the importance of her role as a leader. She was a misunderstood leader at first. I also have a Gold Sex Link named Eggie. Eggie is curious, friendly, and the easiest to hold and walk around with. She loves lint, shiny things, and zippers. She picks lint off of me while I hold her. I also have a Plymouth Barred Rock named Billie. Billie is an easy going, bird. She is starting to cluck almost sounds like a duck. Lastly I have 2 silkies. I am not sure if they are girls or boys yet. There names are Yin and Yang. Yin is a black Silkie. She is all feathered out on the feet and head. She gets left behind easily, and is very docile. She starts sqwauking and Robin comes running for her. Yang is a buff Silkie. She does not have full feathers on her feet or head. Her personality is very different, she is very verbal and runs fast, unlike Yang. I wonder if she is a rooster, as Robin puts her in her place sometimes by chasing or pouncing on her. Overall they are a happy flock. There has not been fighting and every seems to have a role. I am loving being a chicken mom.

from Alabama. Silkies are gorgeous, but they really can be confusing to sex. The most accurate way, wait until it crows or lays an egg

Good luck with your flock
