My girls coops is finally pretty much done. They love it so far. This was built entirely by myself (a lady) for about $60 (and that is Hawaii priced lumber) A couple things: it doesn't get cold here so I didn't have to worry about that, and we don't have any predators besides the occasional cat and my dog does a good job of discouraging them. The entire front swings open and I leave it propped during the day (they free range in my yard) and they like sleeping in the cool shady dirt in there. I have to install a proper perch and I want to put some linoleum on the floor to make cleaning easier. I used 2x4, 1x3 for the floor and 1x2 for the door frame. The nest box was a drawer I found super cheap at a resale shop and then added on to.
So far they want nothing to do with the nest box at all. At 5 1/2 months I have been checking like crazy!
