Just when I thought that my Narrie tom was clueless! My hen has been laying down in front of him for the past week and all he's done is strut around and trip over her. She'll lay down for barn cats, chickens, and when she's out will run across the yard to lay down in front of me. The only thing she hasn't done is rent a motel room- even I got the message. I went out to collect eggs and she came running over and flopped in front of me again; I picked her up and carried her back into the pen and set her down directly in front of him. She looked pitiful; he looked confused... until the idea FINALLY popped into his head and he got down to business. He looked very proud of himself; she looked relieved :) I suppose this is an unorthodox way of breeding turkeys.... I hope now that he's figured things out I won't need to give him any more hints :) Now I'll just hope for eggs and babies!

For a little while there I was beginning to think I was going to have to get a couple of anatomical models and SHOW my fool tom what he was supposed to be doing. She'd lay down for him and he'd mate with the ground next to her. Another would lay down for him and he'd mount her backwards. Another would lay down for him and he'd just stand there. He's got five hens in there with him and I think they finally managed to communicate what they wanted...

.....Alan.
