Finally, the chicks are arriving this week!

After waiting since ordering on January 13th, our 16 chicks from Meyer Hatchery will be arriving this week. I just put the finishing touches on our brooder today. The base is a wood box I found outside a local sign company. I raised the sides, made a top and covered with hardware cloth.





We even started building our coop this weekend, too. Only got the base and the frame for the floor done, but we have 6 weeks or so to get it and the run built.. You can see our progress so far by clicking "My Coop" to the left. I'll post some pics of the chicks when they arrive.

Just got my first baby chicks! So excited. We got 6 from Tractor Supply, they said they're about 1 1/2 weeks old. I have been researching raising chickens for a year and have learned the basics from BYC. Hope to learn more as I go along. Here is one of them. They all seem to enjoy being handled. And so far the dogs haven't even noticed them. They are in a large aquarium in our house for now. Bought a coop and a run from TS also. Will post pics when I get it put together.

I was in TSC today to buy chick feed, pine shavings and SweetPDZ. I watched the baby chicks for about 10 minutes...wishing I could take a few home!
