Hello one of my chickens have finally laid her first egg. My questions are what to do with them, put them in the fridge or in room temp? Is it safe to eat or do I have to do anything to it? This is my first experience with this and could use some helpful advice.

Congratulations and may your girls lay you many more! I refrigerate mine, others leave them on the counter top. You should cook that egg by your favorite method and ENJOY. Also, give your chicks a treat.

I've written a FAQ to answer the question of how to handle fresh eggs from your backyard hens. The good news is that eggs from healthy backyard flocks have more natural defenses against bacteria than do supermarket eggs. But, storage in the fridge is still best. The other thing to know is that fresh eggs, when hard-cooked, don't peel easily! Save your eggs a week before you try. Here's a FAQ about that: http://hencam.com/faq/hard-cooking-and-peeling-fresh-eggs/
Enjoy those delicious treasures from your hens!

Off topic, but I love your site. It is great to check in and see what's up with your flock and the goats each day.

We refridgerate ours, it keeps them fresh longer. But if you are going to be eating them right away, then keep them at room temp. Other than that just eat it, unless it has poop on it then just rinse it off before cracking it open :))
