Finchie Friend- Male or Female?

My zebra finch, Zachary, is around 5 years old and he has unfortunately lost his mate and his budgie friend (one due to illness, the other due to old age). I need to find him a new companion, and am wondering if i should get a male or female. I have read that they will bond with another finch whether they are male or female, but i dont want to risk them fighting. I have no plans on breeding them as i just keep them for pets, as they are the sweetest cutest little birdies.

I think as long as there were no females around 2 boys would get along just fine. I haven't kept zebras before though. Hopefully someone on here has and can share their experience.

I've kept two boys together with no problems.
Remember to introduce slowly, make sure there's plenty of food and water access and places to hide.
!!Do not put zebras with other calmer finches though, zebras can be little bullies.
