if you want a specific type of performance breed, you already have many to choose from. there is no point in trying to make a new dog. most curs do not even breed true and cant even be displayed because of this. and still people are just breeding more dogs, when there are many that can be adopted, trained and used for those functions. there are enough dog breeds out in the world, why try creating another? if you want to make "cur" dogs a breed, you might as well make "designer" dogs a breed. and yes purebred recognized dogs were mixed to create a purebred dog, but the major difference is that, currently, you already have dogs that can succeed at those tasks they were originally created for; its not needed anymore. so what's the point in starting a new breed-creating process for performance? it was already done for you, and you would help out more by adopting dogs from shelters.Well....most breeds out there were developed by mixing other breeds together to form essentially a mutt with certain traits, usually for hunting a particular kind of animal or for working with domestic animals. They only became "purebred" when those mutt mixes started breeding true and were developed over many years, then someone started recognizing them as a breed and pushed for a standardization of that particularly type of dog until it could be recognized officially as a breed.
So....those purebred working dogs bred to hunt were bred by someone in the distant past from combing other types of dogs together. All dogs bred for a specific purpose are designer dogs if you study their history, though they didn't coin that phrase until here recently.
whats the point in mixing breeds if dogs meeting those requirements already exist?
my dog is a mutt, and he meets the requirements for being a treeing cur by the looks of it. they actually dont specify that a dog cannot have pitbull in them or anything of the sort. to the contrary, they allow anything as long as it meets the specifications. going by that, i already have a treeing cur straight out of nature without having to bother to breed a bunch of dogs. i could have just as easily adopted him. he was actually a stray who showed up by my home.
