Hi I made a post somewhat recently asking for advice since one of my 4 week old buff Orpington chicks is a suspected cockerel 😭
Sorry the title is a bit… misleading
Anyways- we’re only allowed 3 chickens, we currently have 2 (chicks I should say both 4 weeks) do you think if we were to socialize them properly they would be ok?
Also are buff Orpington chicks common at TSC? I don’t want to pick another rooster is the a decent way to find out their sex fast as a very young chick, and have you guys ever found a way to only get one chick when our TSC store says we must get four (not a state law) love to hear you guy’s opinions.

Yep, that's a cockerel, sorry.
Tsc might bend the rules you you tell them you already have chicks, but with the age gap, I'm not sure I'd try.
Tsc never knows what their getting until they open the box, even then, I only saw them twice.
If you can't have males, get a sex linked or auto sexing breed.

I don't think it's likely that the store will bend/break their store policy. It sets a precedent. If they do it for you they'd have to do it for everybody and bam, suddenly there is no store policy. Besides, how do they know you - or anyone - is telling the truth when you or they say you already have chicks at home? However, you might be able to make an exchange. Do you have the receipt? See if they will take the cockerel back and exchange it for a female of a sex-link breed. Call first. They might not, for biosecurity reasons, I just don't know. Good luck.
