Hi,
I have 3 Maran chickens age 7 weeks, 2 black and 1 white. Also have 2 mixed chicks age 5 weeks. Past few days I have noticed white feathers in the run. I am not noticing any other color feathers laying around. Could this mean my white maran is ill or stressed? I do not see her getting bullied, to me she seems to have taken on the mother hen roll! New to chickens so any info is appreciated!

Chicks go through two molts before they reach adult size. They simply outgrow their feathers and need to replace them. Seven weeks is a bit early but not a lot. I’ll bet it’s just a juvenile molt.

phew, thank you. that did cross my mind, but was a little worried since hers seem to be the only feathers I see!

When my pullets started to go through a molt I wasn't sure what it was but the feathers started to increase and then I noticed the birds themselves start to look a little ragged! As time goes by your other pullets will start losing feathers.

yea because it looks like their rear end still has "baby fluff". and last week was extremely hot and humid here. maybe hers just stick out on the ground because she is white.
