I knew it would happen! I show dogs and now I am diving into the chickens. Should I join a chicken club...Wyandotte club?

I am interested in obtaining some really nice standard Wyandottes for showing and breeding. Where do I find them? I mean REALLY NICE ones.

I want ALL of the colors and patterns but I know I can't have them. I still have to make up my mind which colors. Any suggestions? I want a super hard challenge!

I have also posted on the swap, sell and purchase portion of this forum for info on showing as well. I need to know if there are specific things you do to raise your show birds as well.

Thank you,
Alayne

IMO joining the breed club would be your best option. They will be able to point you in the direction of serious breeders possibly in, or near, your area.

YOUR really best option would be to go to shows. Wyandottes use to be my bred , most Wyandottes are, as pretty as they maybe , would not stand up against breeders that go to these shows.

To help you though some simple points

When you look at a side view should look like a heart.
Looking down and from behind should be wide
Comb rose - must have a point.
Legs yellow - willow is acceptable in hens - legs "whiten" as they lay eggs.

More but those are the basics, and if you look at many of the pictures posted of Wyandottes you will see that across the board many of them have to wide of backs, and flat chests.

Good luck in your hunt.

I looked long and hard to find some of my wyandottes. Pipermark is right ......most wyandottes you see pictures of don't look anything like a wyandotte is supposed to.

hi is anyone out there that knows of anyone that has dark blue red laced wyandottes in Oregon. They are hard to find thanks Honey
