Fine bedding? Nono for new chicks?

We have quails hatching right now and I set up the quailjail (brooder) last night, but a neighbor tells me that the bedding I bought isn’t safe for the newly hatched…? Can anyone advise on this before I run out to buy larger pine shavings?

TIA!

Main issue with fine bedding is they're more likely to eat it when they're figuring out what food is. I would get a single bag of flake pine bedding for now (and give them a bit of chick grit just in case they eat a bit anyways) and save the fine for when they're older

Thanks so much. The fine stuff was on clearance for $4 so I bought a lot of it 😅 Heading out to get the bigger stuff now
