Actually, I posted a question trying to id a chick a little while ago, but I've basically been lurking here since at least 5 years ago when I first started thinking about getting chicks. This year we started our second flock due to our first being killed when we were on vacation in 2017. We are super secure this time around - 1/2" galvanized hardware cloth everywhere and automatic doors - definitely NOT relying on other people to lock things up at night, vacation or otherwise. I'm so grateful to everyone here for all of the information that I've gleaned over the years. So, for the questions in the sample intro:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I basically answered that.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
18 and 7 ducklings.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Female chicks and started pullets: 2 red stars, 2 black australorps, 2 buff minorcas, 2 white leghorns, 3 ameraucanas, 2 golden wyandottes, 2 barred rocks, 2 rhode island reds. And one McMurray mystery chick that I think is a light brahma cockerel. Female ducklings: 1 chocolate runner, 1 black runner, 1 blue runner, 1 fawn and white runner, 1 gold star hybrid, 1 pekin, and 1 welsh harlequin.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching and interacting with the birds. Eggs!!!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, reading, grandchildren, science fiction of any kind.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Married, two adult daughters, three grandchildren. One cat and one dog. We live on a farm with my eldest daughter and her family, which includes three cats and a dog. I'm retired and busier than ever!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I don't remember how I found BYC, but I've been accessing info here for years. Finally decided to join to I would be "legit" and so I could post!
