I've never seen my chickens eat fireants...for anyone who doesn't know what a fireant is they are EVIL and are responsible for the loss of many native species. I'm pretty sure that in the Bible where it says you will burn in the fire of Hell, they really meant in the Fireants of Hell!
Anyway....what I have done is (carefully) take a pan of boiling water and pour it over the fireant mound. If there are ant eggs they will surface like grains of rice and the chickens LOVED those!
But be aware that if you get a chicken with injuries and it goes off by itself and the ants find it...they will eat it alive. I've seen it on a roo I rescued and on a wild baby kitten that I found and I thought was dead because it was covered in ants...but it wasn't dead (yet). Poor thing.
