I was hoping to put the chickens on the ground. But then I just noticed a new fire ant hill in the yard. We use granular pesticides for the ants. It works very well. We just haven't treated yet this year.

But am I going to be forced to keep chickens off the ground or is there a way to deal with these ants?

Give them some moistened artificial sweetener with aspartame. It will kill them quickly. I used this until I found a few of my chickens have a taste for fire ants.

My neighbors pay me $50 for a day of my flock chowing down on tasty fire ants...and they buy the meat and eggs also and the poop fertilizes their lawns!
