fires and chickens

Was the smoke from the burn pile drifting towards where the chickens were?

Was he burning anything toxic such as plastic, foam, pressure treated wood, paint, chemicals just to name a few
or use gasoline or some other flammable liquid to start the fire?

If so. Yes. It’s very possible.
I am very sorry.

We have burnt just about anything in our burn barrel, its about 20 yards from the coop, and had never had a death because of it. Now, we are protected from wind. So if it was windy and blew the smoke into the coop, very possible it got in their lungs.

We have burn barrels and burn our household paper trash. And have never had a problem.
How close is your burn area to the chickens coop and run?
Was there a brease thet maybe carried the smoke twords them?
Was there alot of plastic being burnt?
50 feet or so. don't know what all was in there. I know an old pillow that the dog tore up this morning. The husband burns everything.
