Just a little anecdote that brought us here in this household a little bit of mirth.

"We" (read: exclusively my spouse) have been working on remodeling our ugly backyard shed into a chicken coop and in the interim have had our little birds (who are still just little awkward teenagers) living in our basement while we're getting things ready. It's very nearly done, likely will be completely finished (at least the interior of the coop, the run still needs fencing and hardware cloth and reinforcement and predator protection, but their little door will remain locked shut with them inside while we get that part sorted) today or tomorrow. We were talking about how exciting it is to be able to move them in there finally, but then the thought occurred to me that, go figure, it's fourth of July weekend, so maaaaaybe we might consider waiting until at least Sunday or maybe early next week. Just imagining it going something like:

"Here you go my darlings! Your new home! A special, SAFE place JUST FOR YOU!" *exploding fire LITERALLY rains down from the sky at night*

...might not be the greatest first impression of their permanent home.

They should be ok. We have done some fireworks at our place, and the birds don't seem to mind. As long as you aren't right near an area where they'd be setting off big fireworks it should be a-ok.

Good to know! I'm curious to see what this year is going to be like, COVID and all that. Last year was our first fourth of July in this house and there were folks setting off mortars in the street in front of us, we have sky lights above our bed (that are on the side of the house that's away from the street) and we could see them arcing up and over our roof toward the backyard... So I guess we'll see what happens! One of my little pullets (Velociraptor is her name) seems to be more of a worry wort than the others (at least she makes more worried vocalizations than everyone else and it seems to be her default response. Including to things like being offered lettuce).
