Got our very first 2 eggs (Fri and Sat, same girl). Since then I hear here sing almost daily same time every morning. I go outside and nothing, no egg. I've heard it takes a while for them to get into a routine and get their bodies regularly laying. Is the song just a practice thing? She does it for like 5 minutes every morning then just stops. Or should I be concerned? She's a young girl so I'm assuming her body just isn't regular yet and she's warming up her singing pipes?

BTW She's 18 weeks old, unfortunately we are not 100% sure which bird but believe it to be our Polish based on the first 2 eggs color. If it is the Polish I know they don't regularly lay either, but just want to make sure I shouldn't be concerned.

Thanks

We do not free range due to daily predators and I went immediately outside each day and saw nothing.
I have read the "how to tell" article a couple of times. The polish is hard to tell comb because of her Crest. I haven't had the time to.pick up each bird to inspect either

You could hang around the coop in the morning and see who goes into the nest boxes. I have done this many times and am doing it many times a day atm. I have a Heritage orp pullet that hasn't layed yet, she is like 8 months old. So I am checking many times thru the day to see if she is on the nest yet. She is showing signs of being ready wattles have dropped and comb is nice and red and has grown out, so now I'm like an expecting father just waiting :wee
