I have an ameraucana that is 1 1/2 yo. She has been doing great until recently. I first noticed some thin shells/broken eggs in the egg box, then I realized it was her eggs. Yesterday, after monitoring her during the day, I noticed that she wasn't moving much, didn't go up in the hen house, but slept on the coop floor. Now she is in my house, inside a box. She has not any signs of disease on the outside, her crop is soft, she is not eating but drinking plenty. Her feces are now liquid with a tint of yellow, but she had some more solid ones this morning. She is now sitting and sleeping.

I spent $250 at the our local vet once and I can't afford it again.

Any help?

Thanks,

Laura

I'm dealing with a similar situation and while looking through the posts found yours. Mine has been acting 'off' for a couple weeks now. I found that she has mites but I think there is something else going on.

Anyway, thought I'd reply to see if you get a reply. Chicken managing can suck sometimes.

Thin egg shells can be related to malnutrition. I'm wondering, between the watery feces, loss of apetite, and possible malnutrition if she may have internal parasites. How is her body condition? And, just to be sure, what IS she currently eating as her main diet?

I hate to be the one to mention this, but these sound like signs of an internal layer.

My RIR had this problem around 1 year old. Maybe someone else can post some thoughts and possible treatments.
