A while back I had someone open my brooder box and steal a few chickens. Now I've had a visit from a rather large black rat snake.
I went to check on and feed the chicks in one of my raised cages. The broody hen had done such a great job of taking care of the 4 that hatched. When I got there I knew all was lost when I saw the BIG snake laying there with 4 lumps.
I didn't want to kill the snake so I asked my wife to drive me down the road while I held the snake. Well..... on the way I accidentally turned it's tail loose. Within a matter of seconds the sucker slid it's tail beside the seat wrapping its tail/body around the seat frame. I had 2 feet of snake in my hand 2 feet of snake wrapped/twisted around the seat frame and 2 feet of snake laying in the floor AND a wife freaking out. It took 15 minutes of HARD work to get that sucker loose. My wife was so upset she forgot to save a ton of pics of me WRASSLIN that sucker out of the seat frame.
I have to say that's one lucky snake. I was moments from giving up on saving it opting to pull till it tore in half. Interestingly enough not once did it try to bite me and I pulled on that joker so hard I just knew it was going to rip.
OH and I let it keep the 4 chicks in its stomach. At least someone got something useful from them.
Yep a lucky 6' long black rat snake.
Here's a shot with visible lumps:
And one showing how long it is. I'm 5'11" It was longer than I am tall. It's tail was on the ground and it's body was twisted in the pic.
