We have a bully in our 4 chicks. One of them has been pecking the others and finally caused a quarter sized bloody spot on the one chick.

I separated the bully, but what can I do for the bleeding one? Luckily the other chicks don't seem to be bothering the bleeding one.

I have to run 5 kids to an Easter Egg hunt in about 15 minutes, but I will try to keep up with this thread on my phone if I have signal out there and get any supplies I need on the way back.

Thanks!

get something called bluekote, it is a spray antibiotic, you can also use 'nuskin' its in the pharmacy dept, like a liquid bandage- have used it on a hen that kept ripping her neck open- it will stay on about a week, the other thing- what color heat bulb are you using? the red one will help prevent pecking- the bully isn't necessarily a bully, he is curious- but keep him so he can see the other chicks and not get lonely

Awesome, thanks. They have a red heat lamp. Yeah this guy is definitely curious. Nearly ripped my freckle off when I was holding her!

Ok, I'll rig something up where they can see each other when we get home. Maybe put the aquarium inside the brooder for her. Thanks again!

I had a bully that was a little older than 2 others, she would peck terribly at the new babies. (They were a 4-5 days old and she was 2.5 weeks) All the other olders were fine. So I sat there and would gently flick the bully everytime she went after the new babies. I did a few sessions and then would seperate where they could see each other. Then I put a hole in the barrier that the littler guys could escape through and integrated. It worked great. I also use a lightless ceramic bulb? Don't know if that helps or not. I really think the flicking did the trick. I use neosporin on my birds, I dont know about babies. But I have read chickens dont like to peck goopy things so it might keep your buuly from pecking at the same spot again! Good Luck!! BTW what breeds are they?

If you get a FLOCK BLOCK at TSC it will stop your pecking. They peck the block of seeds instead of each other. Also satisfies all their nutrient needs so they don't start pecking to begin with.

Would wound coat work? The guy at the feed store said it was a blue spray on antiseptic. They don't have anything actually called bluekote.

Ok, you guys are awesome. Thanks so much! Chick's wound is treated and the little pecker is in isolation.

The injured chick is a Barnevelder and the pecker is a barred rock.

I used one of my old aquariums to make an isolation chamber where they could still all see each other.
