Hello, so I have had chickens for a year now and I have been lucky, no illnesses or emergencies

But I have 12 new chicks coming next week and I was wondering what are the basics for a chicken first aid kit I should have on hand for my chicks and adults. I have read a lot of things but I was hoping to hear it right from the horses mouth so to speak

thanks for your help !

I too am pretty new to the chicken world,

But my kit contains xenodine, neosporin, and styptic power in case of injury,
blue-Kote and some "pick n more" lotion to keep other hens from pecking at minor wounds.
I also have some broad spectrum antibiotics, and an electrolyte mix for chickens on hand just in case.

I keep some Sevin dust and diatomaceous earth in case of external parasites, and some de-wormer for internal.

Many other things you might need for chicken first aid are the same stuff you probably already have around the house for people first aid (peroxide, gauze, gloves, etc)

Thank you everyone for your responses! I didn't think to look up old threads, so after a while with no responses that's what I did and found some great info as well as what you guysvhave just gave me. Thanks again!

If you are more into natural treatment options, I would definitely have colloidal silver on hand. Also, grapefruit seed extract is an absolute necessity. I would start my chicks out with that in their water (I do a dropperful per gallon) from the beginning to avoid any possible problems. I also keep castor oil, tea tree essential oil and lavender essential oil on hand for injuries and wounds.
