The first finally rolled out just before 7pm. There was no progress since last night. Suddenly between 3pm and 5 it started zipping a nice line. Just before 7 a black/blue wet silkie hit the wire screaming. It keeps falling asleep, but each time it wakes up it starts peeping loudly. Hopefully this one will encourage another to hatch.

If this is the only one I will need to find someone within driving distance that is hatching too.

So much for hope. Petie is the one and only hatchling. Since no others hatched that makes him a $55 chick. That is what went into these eggs. USPS really doesn't like packages marked Fragile or hatching eggs.

Matt, Don't feel bad. We had 42 Barred Rocks and Golden Lakenvelders shipped to Maryland from Arkansas. Packaged well but handled like the box for the Lakenvelders was a basketball. Thanks Postal Service. We only had five hatch. One died in the first week the others seem ok. I don't think we wil buy shipped eggs again . To much money and time invested for outcome of four lil guys. Good luck with your single. You need to get a companion or suragate friend for it. It will make it easier on you. Our first hatching was a single from our own eggs she grew up with a featherduster until we hatched out the next gathering of our eggs. They are all together now outside in thier own coop. Take care Matt O.

I can beat that. Unfortunately. My single chick from my hatch is a $110 chick. Ditto on USPS.

I got him 4 friends yesterday from a friend who had some new hatchlings. I had to drive 150 miles round trip to get them, but at least Petie is happy and quiet.

Right now the 5 are in a small cardboard booder/box in the living room. In a few days they will move upstairs to my bedroom and into a larger brooder/box. I always cut out a large section out of one side and tape glass or plexi over it. Chick-Vision is way more entertaining then TV.

See posts like this make me sssooooo very nervous for the 21 shipped silkie eggs I set last week.....I really hope I have a decent hatch...shooting for 50%, so maybe......
