I did the box trick and so far so good.I took the box off and she is now sitting quietly in the new nest box on the floor as I type.I'm gonna check her first thing in the morn to make sure she is still sitting there

So hope this works!! Only got 4 more days and those chicks should be hatching!

OMG! It worked she is still there!! The move was a success!! Now she is safetly on the ground and her new chicks can hatch without worry of falling or other chickens attaching them. What a relief!!

Thanks for everyones help! I'll take pictures of her new chicks in a few days

Yaay! I'm glad it worked! My hen came out to eat today and acted like she just snapped out of a trance -- flapping and shaking and looking around. I let her outside for a cuple of minutes to mingle with her friends, then I put her back in her box. I replaced her infertile egg with one that's due at the end of the week, and if she's good, I'll replace the golf ball with another one. Looks like we may be hatching together, too!

I think she's on lock down because she isn't getting up for food or water now.I brought the water to her yesterday and let her get a couple drinks.I don't hear any peeping yet though.Oh the suspence!!

When should I hear the peeping after they pip?

They're pipping but not peeping? Odd. I'm sure they'll come along. Phyllis hatched her egg, and she hasn't killed the chick yet!

I gave her a free Ameraucana egg. I have some expensive bantam Cochin eggs in the bator that I was afraid to lose if she turned out to be a bad mother. Irony is, the temperature spiked while I was at work and all but one died

. I'm rooting for your broody and babies.

I'm not sure if they have piped yet because I don't want to upset moma hen and end up killing them by me being nosey and grabbing her eggs under her.I just wondered when do you hear the peeping? After they have pipped? So sorry to hear about your Cochin eggs? I had 49 eggs in my bator and had to remove 9 yesterday from blood ring and some not fertile. It's heartbreaking! I think I may have 2 more that are quitters.

What's with all the blood ring about? I had 4 or 5 with it now.

Houston we have a pip!! Finaly! It's day 24 and 1 of the 5 has a pip.I was about to give up and replace her eggs with ones in my bator but to my surprise with the one.I just hope I didn't kill it by picking it up when I took it out from under her.It was just a second but still.Anyone know???
