Now though, I use "wet or dry" sandpaper on a sheet of thick glass. I start with something like 300 grit and end with 6000 grit, then strop with leather. It is MUCH faster than this process but by the same token, be sure you're doing to properly because you can mess it up a lot faster too. Same method, same everything, but faster on the sandpaper and you just discard that strip of sandpaper when it wears out.
