I just candled for the first time, but I can't tell if all the eggs are developing. Some of the eggs are brown, and I'm having trouble seeing the embryo through the shell. I was seeing eyeballs and even movement in some of the lighter colored eggs. How can I know if the brown eggs are doing okay? Thanks.

I don't know what kind of light you're using but I find that having a really good "seal" around the egg, to keep brightness from bleeding out around the base of the light, can help a great deal. I use a piece of cardboard with a nickel sized hole cut out; I perch the egg in the hole and shine a bright LED flashlight up from beneath. In a dark room, it lights up an egg like a billboard.

My incubator has a built-in candler. It is like this one:
Safego 16 Eggs Incubator Hatching Incubator with Automatic Turner for Hatching Turkey Goose Quail Ducks Chicken Eggs,Built-in Egg Candler Tester,Small Egg Hatcher Machine : Amazon.ca: Industrial & Scientific

The yolk freely moving around when I turn the egg is a bad sign, right? I think I had a couple eggs doing that. Should I remove them?

So does mine but I cut a piece of cardboard about 6"x 6" to go over the area and block the light. Try it.
It won't do any harm if I try to candle again tonight, will it? I didn't get a super good look at how the eggs were developing because I was worried about the eggs being out for too long.
