First Chick Born on day 21.. The rest.. Nothing!

Hello everyone!!

Today is day 21 for me. I started out with about 33 eggs and only have about 5 that made it to lock down. This morning when I woke up one of the eggs was pipped, yay!! About an hour later the chick made it out and has been doing good all day. I left it in the incubator as the rest of the eggs have not pipped or anything.. I can't really tell if there's movement in the eggs or just general wobbly table movement moving the eggs around. I have a Hovabator 1588 and one of the eggs is upside down flat on the surface with the smaller end up, should I do anything about it? I am very worried!!

I just replied to your question on another thread. Fat end always up. I don't know how far along yours are though.

Wow, 5 out of 33 to lockdown? I'm so sorry! You should read 'Hatching Eggs 101'. There's tons of information in there about incubating. Just type that in the search bar. Did you have some temp spikes? What was your humidity at? It takes a lot of practice to get good hatch rates. Wait till about day 23-24, then do the warm water float test. Fill a bowl with enough warm water that an egg can float in it, put an egg in, wait for the water to settle, then see if there's any movement. Your last question-I'm trying to visualize what you are talking about. I would lay the egg on it's side in the incubator and see if it hatches. They should always be incubated on their side or fat end up.

It was my first time so I had a lot of ups and downs. The eggs didn't rest long enough before I put them in the bator.. And then I put them directly into the turner which I know is a big no no too.. Another thing was I had 15 from one person and 18 from another. When the 18 arrived 4 of them had cracked and they were really really poorly packaged. The yolks had oozed onto a bunch of the eggs and they were all insanely filthy and it stank like crazy, I'm sure that had something to do with only 1 from that batch making it this far.. I hope I do it right next time, I have some eggs ready already!! My humidity was 45%-55% for the first 18 days, then at 100 for the entire time. Right now the incubator is at about 63%-65%.

I will do the water float test day after tomorrow if there's nothing. Tomorrow is day 22.. I have a little lone chick in there that hatched this morning who is doing really well but sure is lonely, it did an amaaaazing A+ job getting out of the egg!! I think I can see two of the eggs wobbling.. One of them managed to turn all the way around with the small side up, so I switched that one back around. Should I put them all on their side?
