first chick order!!!

okay today we ordered 25 layers, plus a free surprise chick from mcmurry hatchery.
I am really excited!!! this is the first time...
so I have a ton of questions!!
what should I use for a brooder...?
what kinda beddin..?
do I have to use a heat lamp this time of year??
and..is it a definite that the free chick will be a rooster?

any other advice would be awesome too!

That's where I got my babes from. Did you order straight run?
I used my spare bathroom tub for the brooder and the wood chip type pet bedding. Usually the rare chick turns out to be a roo.

I also ordered mine from MM. My free "rare" chick turned out to be a Dominique hen! She is sooo pretty! Not the brightest crayon in the box....but pretty!

Anyways good luck with your chicks! I used a rubberamaid bin with a heat lamp. I would still use a heat lamp, even though its warmer, I doubt your house is 100, if so, I have no idea how you could stand that, lol.
