I'm mostly a lurker and reader, but I just wanted to pop in because I'm pretty excited about our very first hatch. We're using a diy cooler incubator, and although temps and humidity seemed to hold well, I was nervous. All five had been developing well, and were active upon lockdown.

It's day 20, and I've been watching like a hawk since early yesterday morning. I hadn't noticed any pips, but I did hear what I thought could be chirping this morning.

Three hours later, and we have a fully hatched chick! I can't believe I missed the whole thing, including the pip. How common is it for chicks to emerge from start to finish so quickly?

Anyhow, I just wanted to share my excitement with some like minded people, and my eyes have been glued to the remaining four since. lol

I used a bator I made myself and had a perfect hatch rate. I had some that took awhile to pip externally and awhile to hatch, but then I had some hatch in just a few hours. It was the first time I had set my hens eggs and it was very hard for me to wait to see all my pretty birds.

It's certainly both really exciting and nerve wracking.

Still no pips, but the singleton chick seems to be doing well! She's drying off well, and pecking at various things in between naps. :)

I'm on pins and needles waiting for a friend to hatch out for her!
