first chicken hatch.....very anxious

Outer membrane has a large slice in it now......do i worry yet about drying out? Have small drops of condensation on viewing window so think humidity is ok...blood almost completely disappeared except for teeny tiny speck...breathing in egg ok....

Well....i had to end up assisting about 6:00 this morning...breaths getting shallow in the egg. Started peeling back the outer membrane and had lots of blood still, so i put it back in for a little while, and covered it with damp towel. Went back after an hour or so to check on it, and it was gone. Peeled away everything left, and there was a LOT of liquid, greenish and yellow in color. Poor baby. My other egg that had pipped earlier in the evening had started zipping, so i left it alone as it was making good progress. That one must've been too big, because it never finished zipping, and was upside down in the egg, dead. The yolk sack hadnt been completely absorbed yet on that one. It doesn't appear i have any more fertile eggs, but i guess at least i got 9 babies. I just wish they didn't make it so far before they died....

This is day 24. Not seeing any movement or hearing anything from the rest of the eggs. Gonna give them until tomorrow then try again. Not sure if i should try a dry incubation so i dont have the problem again of chicks too big....
