Let me just say first off, that I would definitely not recommend trying it, but it worked for me once when I was a kid. Posting this now just to share :)
Here's the story... When I was about 9 or so, I found an egg that a neighbor's chicken had laid in a flower pot in my great uncle's yard. Of course, I wanted to try to hatch it. After receiving some "old timey" advice from my grandparents to wrap it in in a wash cloth, put it on the hot water heater, and turn it once a day ONLY, I gave it a shot. To the astonishment of all adults involved, it actually worked, and I named him Lucky.
This was my first experience with chickens. I spent a summer break raising and caring for him as diligently as only a 9 year old can, but he eventually grew up to be a feisty rooster that only liked my granddad. My grandparents kept him for a while, built him a little pen and would let him out to walk the garden with them everyday. I'll never forget watching my granddad pulling giant worms off of his tomato plants and patiently passing them to this crazy rooster that followed him row by row like a dog.
They eventually gave him away, but his story lived on in our family for many years.
