The husband went outside and found that one of our hens has an open cut on her neck. We don't have roosters, just ten hens, so she must have cut it on some fencing or something in the barn somewhere (they free-range all day when we're home).

I brought her in, cleaned it off with hydrogen peroxide, and coated it with Neosporin. But he said the other hens were pecking at it, so I put her in a separate, fenced area so that she can free-range away from them.

I read on here that it's best to separate an injured chicken -- we have nowhere safe to put her, other than in the house in one of our bathrooms or something. Will that be stressful? We can bring her in an extra water and feeder.

Saw another post that said to put another hen with her, but won't they peck at it? We have a couple that I think would leave her alone, but I don't know for sure.

Thoughts? Anything else I should do? We don't have any blue kote or anything like that.
