First chicks are hatching

Thanks for all the great info on the forum. This was my first try. I got 3 hatched and dry. One about out, and several more peeping. Eggs came from my 4 RIR hens and 1 red star hen. Breed by a RIR Rooster and a Buff Orpington Rooster. The Buff roo started life as a dyed pink easter chick, and he just grew on me. I got 6 5 week old pre-sexed Orpington pullets just for him. I plan on just breeding the chicks that hatch out pure RIR. I have read that red stars are often half RIR. Do you think a chicken that's 3/4 RIR will be hard to tell apart from a 100% RIR. Wife just told me that number 4 is out and one more is cracked. Sweet. 18 more to go.

Great to hear your having some success. I go into lockdown tomorrow on 5 turkey eggs.
