Following instructions to introduce myself. šŸ™ƒ

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Getting my first batch of chicks in the mail this Friday

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? None right now, ordered 10 chicks

(3) What breeds do you have? Getting 5 ISA Browns and 5 "random" colored egg layers.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Something new to try, free eggs, and something to help control the grasshoppers

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Reading, sewing, used to shoot rifle competition but not any more

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Just me, the husband, 2 cats, and 2 elderly llamas. I work for a bank in the online security department.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D Found it a few days ago while searching for more info on raising baby chicks. Like the tips I am seeing and want to be able to post questions when necessary

Welcome! So glad you're here! :welcome:frow
Have fun with those chicks when they arrive. :)

Well obviously the eggs aren't truly "free". Just like venison isn't free due to the expenses of hunting. But I meant since I am already paying to keep the chickens the eggs are a nice bonus.

Guess I should have mentioned I live in central Texas, although my username gives away part of that. We have 20 acres, with a fenced in pasture of about 1.5 acres. Coop is a converted horse stall in our run-in shed. Hens will be allowed out to play during the day when they are old enough. Hoping they "mostly" stay in the pasture for their own safety but I k ow that is highly unlikely. Will attach a few pics of the coop and brooder I am setting up. Coop is almost done being enclosed. Still need to add roosts and laying boxes.

The frame will be an MHP, still waiting on the heating pad I ordered to be delivered. Thanks to everyone who has posted pics and descriptions of theirs.
