first coop...love it!

Next we put on a metal roof with pieces left over from the roof we just put on our house

I put welded wire in the bottom of the run and secured it to the side of the bottom rail with poultry nails. Then we added strips of wood about 1/4 inch thick over the edges. I added patio blocks to the area under the coop where food/water is.

All of the wire has wood strips on the outside to help keep the wire secure. We have a roosting pole inside of the coop and one outside. So far my girls seem to be quite happy in their new home.

You did a good job. When we get ours finished I will share. Thanks for sharing your ideas. How did you do ventilation inside? Did you put any type of door on coop part so you can clean the inside? Just curious :)

Thanks for the construction pics. Very nice to have talent. If there is a real worry about snakes accessing the run, you could put 1/4" hardware cloth a foot or so high over top the other wire. It shouldn't be too expensive at that height.

Trefoil....the entire run is hardware cloth so hopefully no snakes will find a way inside. I only used the 2x4 welded wire in the floor of the run itself and it is attached up the sides of the bottom rail with poultry nails and covered with pressure treated strips of wood as well.

Avatars.....we have a window on one side that can be opened for ventilation we also have inside the top of the coop thats enclosed in the run area open at the top under the metal roof. We may add more ventilation using a/c vents if we see it is needed. I do have a door on the back side that opens the entire side for easy clean out. I bought the 37 cent vinyl 12x12 floor tiles and covered the wood floor inside of the coop to make cleaning it easier. Under the roost pole I have lots of shavings to catch most of the poop mess. In the nesting boxes I used plastic dishpan a with hay for nesting so they will be easy to clean as well.

This is the inside of the coop after I put the tiles down

Thank you. I'm sure I will be adding on next spring. For now I just want to make a portable run. I have 3 dogs so free ranging isn't an option. I'd like to make it where it can attach to the run door I have on the front of the coop.
