First Coop

I like the looks of the rough cut siding. Are you planning to cut some holes in it for some ventilation/airflow? You say you are going to put 50 birds in there? 8X16' going to be a little tight for 50. I have a 8X16' coop and with 22 birds it looked kinda full. I'm not trying to P on the parade but, just something to think about.

I left the area between the wall framing and the roof wide open. so there is a 8" space around the entire top that acts as ventilation. We installed hardware cloth to prevent predators. These can be blocked as need if we have a harsh winter.

As for the 50 we expected to lose some in shipping/growout, but that didn't happen. Some of the birds are straight runs so extra males will be eaten or sold. We also have many many hawks so I expect to lose some right of the bat once they start free ranging. They will have access to a very large area to free range and a covered secure run 24/7

I may move my 12 marans over to another much larger barn if needed.

Thanks! We have a wind problem so we had to make sure it would withstand 70+ mile an hour, greater gusts. Enjoy your chicks!

For vents we have these along the entire roof line. You can also see one of our skylights in this picture.

Nice looking coop... I'm sure those chickies will be happy to move in when they are able to leave the brooder...
