hey guys, new to the forum, hope you're all well! I've set 18 eggs in a new incubator late lastnight. Slide type turning. I've discovered the hygrometer was stuck, so popped a new one in today and the humidity is reading near 70%!

A)is my hatch now a complete loss or do I have time to save it?

B)any advice on the best way to lower the humidity on a slide type (reservoir right at the bottom)

Cheers x

Any given day of humidity is unimportant.....what counts is that your egg loses the correct amount of weight over the course of the 21 days so don't worry, one day of high won't hurt.

To reduce humidity, remove water....simple as that. I am not familiar with a slide type incy so can't tell you how to do it but presumably you put water in....now you need to take it out again. How do you access the water chambers? Maybe you need to syphon it off with a straw or remove a plug? Not sure as mine works by automatic pump so I just re-set the pump and it sorts itself.

Thank you very much. The humidity has dropped to 65% this evening. I'll check it again later and again in the morning and adjust the water accordingly. The 2 water chambers are at the bottom, under the bottom mesh plate, under the sliding egg tray... so a little fiddly, but with a straw (simple but probably the most sensible idea!) I should be able to empty one / balance it out accordingly quite quickly. Ironically there are 2 little holes to add water at the bottom, but no plug to let water out.

Think I'll be adding one next time round! :) Thanks again. I'll add some more info once candled just in case anyone finds themselves in a similar position.

Interesting side note, the slide system works great on small to standard eggs, but some of the larger ones (Black Coppers) are getting less than a full turn. Looks like enough, but we'll see!

Thanks again.

You need to drop that down to about 40-45% for the first 18 days. Don't let it remain high for too long or it will begin to put your eggs at risk xx

Thanks! Lowered it down and keeping it steady now. Really appreciate the reply x
