First Day out for the Babies

The babies had their first day of Freedom today. My Wife (Lilbizzy) put together this little run for the Littlen's. They can go in and out of the shed where the Brooder is. It was SO hot here the last few days they needed the fresh air.

I had to set a sheet of ply on the top for some shade.

All this is temperary until they can move to the Big Girl house. I already have to build an addition
and more Run.

In the little guy run, I might put down some pine straw. It will keep them clean and not in the muck and mud when it rains. Pine straw breaks down pretty well so you don't have to clean it out like you would pine shavings etc. Just add more pine straw when the old straw gets broken down.

Great job on the design. I am sure they are happy and safe in their new home.

I don't know if pine straw is available, I'll have to check the feed store this weekend.

I have done some other things to the big girl pen since that pic. They now have a 7X8 overhang in front of the coop for Morning shade and a dry place when it does rain.
The 4x4 in the center of pen to center post on left side and back is all overhang.

I just had my hubby pick up some pine bedding from walmart to put in their nest boxes.. pretty available..
