First dead (non predator) chicken.

I got home tonight and my wife said one of the chickens was dead.

I went out to the coop and collected the chicken from where it laid under the roost.

I checked her and found her vent was about the size of a quarter, there were NO feathers around it all the way to her legs and there were traces of blood.

I have been getting 3 or 4 eggs lately that had blood spots on the outside.

The girls are just about 2 years old.

Any ideas?????

Egg bound, or the egg broke inside her. I am sorry for your loss. It does happen

Thanks for the information...I didn't see any sign of broken shell so I guess it was being 'bound'....that's the second one...the first was a raccoon....

Sorry for your loss. It's tough when they suddenly up and die for no real reason that can be fathomed.
