First duckling hatch of 2025!

How are your babies doing?
I wanted to post updated pics of the Splashes since I haven’t sold them yet. Older to newer, body pics were taken today.
I think Moncloa (grey) is female, noisier than Legazpi (light yellow) or is a later developing female that can’t compete with Moncloa’s noise lol.
Moncloa wasn’t as dark as Barry was at hatch, but is turning into this lovely solid pearl gray. Legazpi looks like will be almost white but has darker feet, interesting.
Pic 4 is a Saxony male, younger in the background.
Moncloa looks a shade darker than Barry. I’d like to have a duck Legazpi’s color. Are you selling both of them?
I’ll take new pictures of Barry & Carter tomorrow. They’re doing great although they are going through a shy stage. I’m becoming more convinced that Carter is a drake.

My incubating eggs are on day 24 and about half have internal pips and the rest look close. I did lose 1 embryo around day 14 so I have 15 left

I do have to sell them because Splash does not fit into my color project. I made an exception for the Blue Buff (their dad) and Lilac Cayuga (their mom), because eventually the dark colors will help me get a solid Black Crested, but Splash is too unpredictable.
I’m happy they came out as Splash but are solid colors because the Bib is dominant, I don’t want that. I would think a solid Splash is very unique.

Hi.

@My15Ducks : do you think Barry could, in fact, be Lilac or Lavender coloured...?

The father is my buff colored, mixed laying breed, drake, Banana.

Ugh... I am almost jealous of you for owning such a beautiful drake!

Your Banana is not Buff coloured, but I don't know how to call this colour in English.
In French, we call it "Jaune Pois". (It is very rare!!!)

He is a Mallard patterned duck, LIGHT phase (meaning "Trout")... and if my understanding is right, he should have 2 Blue alleles AND 2 Chocolate alleles...?

Do you have a picture of his parents?
(I'm curious.)

I’m not sure what color Barry is. She is darker colored than my other blue duckling was when she hatched.. so I don’t know!

I know Banana is mallard patterned. Personally I think he is a buff with 2 blue alleles plus the mallard pattern - but I could be wrong! Maybe I will get a better idea of his color based on his ducklings. He’s the only one I’ve hatched out who is this color!

I don’t know exactly who his parents are because I had multiple drakes with the flock.

These are his possible fathers:

A black dusky
A blue dusky
A blue
A chocolate with white bib
A black Indian Runner (very unlikely)

He has too many possible mothers to list, but my flock includes these colors: buff, chocolate with blue (I don’t know what this color is called), chocolate dusky, light phase butterscotch mallard (?), and black

You might be right about Banana having 2 chocolate genes because the first 2 ducklings look like they might be chocolate!

Thank you for replying...!

I'm trying to see HOW I could eventually get such a colour in future ducklings... but I am half-planning to cheat and just buy a "Jaune Pois" (still searching for the English name!!) coloured Indian Runner drake...

Ugh... a so beautiful colour, seriously...!!

If ever you want to find it on other ducks, search for "Coureur Indien Jaune Pois" on Google Image.
That's how I could assume - thanks to the few pictures I could find - this colour is Mallard patterned, and has Blue and Chocolate... (but I'm still learning about colour genetics, so don't take my words for it)

You might be right about Banana having 2 chocolate genes because the first 2 ducklings look like they might be chocolate!

Day 26 and a half! 2 early birds!

So cute...!!

Post pictures of them when they are dry, please!!

I have 10 ducklings hatched this morning! 5 more to go! I’ll post pictures of them all when they are fluffed up.
IF Banana has 2 chocolate alleles his ducklings should still be sex-linked, but since there’s a lot of blue dilution happening too, will I be able to tell them apart? Right now I’m totally confused 😂 just waiting for them to dry and fluff

This one looks like it has the mallard pattern, and it looks chocolate based - so it should be a girl?
