We finally have our first egg my flock is about 18 weeks old. I have one chicken that I am not sure about it is a Road Island Red I have 2 of them one for sure is a hen but the other one is starting to develop a larger comb and waddles. I have included a few pictures and some pictures of my known roosters they are crowing and look like roosters one is a white Brahma and the other is a Bared Rock. The Red in question does not crow and they are all the same age. I have 18 chickens in the flock all heritage breeds. Here are the pictures.

The first 2 pictures are the Red in question what do you think? I tried to get a better picture but it kept moving.

The next 2 are my know fellas handsome aren't they?

The next 2 are my Red that I am sure is a hen.

Our first egg we are so proud my wife discovered it in the nest box.

Great I really did not want another rooster. She could be the layer but their are 16 hens all the same age and there was not any sitting on it so I don't know. We have 4 Buff Orphanton, 2 silver wyandots, 2 Americana, 1 bared rock hen, 1 Brahma hen, 2 wells summer, 2 australorps, and 2 RI Reds. These are my first chickens so we are learning as we go you can see my coop construction on the coop thread.

Thanks Mike

If you really want to know:

Vent:
Dry, tight, and smaller - usually not laying.
Moist, wide, and larger - usually laying

Pelvic Points 2 bony points(pelvic bones) on either side of vent:
Less than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means not laying.
More than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means laying.

That is one of the butt kickinest coop and runs I've ever seen.
Too bad it's buried in that thread.....you should make a member page.

Thank you I am going to try and figure out how to do that.

I may try and check her running gear out LOL. They all come to me when I break out the treats.
