First egg but hens not going into nesting box?

I am having the same issue with our nesting boxes. We have 4 laying hens, and two boxes. Some use the left hand box only while other days I find the eggs on the floor of the run. I can't work out why they don't use both boxes. Any help would be gratefully received

you may want to put fake eggs or golf balls in the nesting boxes so they have an idea of where to lay eggs mine would lay an egg where ever they were standing until i put in the fake eggs took a couple days but they figuired it out also are their nesting boxes dark away in a corner or secluded area mine are in the coop dark corner away from others, so where they can hide will laying

I will try the fake egg trick. Also you could be right about the light. The box they do not use faces the doorway. I will fiddle with it today. Thanks heaps.

Question we have a pair that has been laying eggs there are about 15 in nest but she does not sit on them I read on another feed that she won't until there is enough eggs. Well question is will these be good eggs or should I gather it has been getting in 30s at night they are in coop with heat lamp but not sure if that is wArm enough. They are gunieas

Do you have a rooster? Otherwise they won't be fertile.

With chickens.... just allowing eggs to accumulate in the nest will not prompt the hen to be broody and hatch them.
If a hen is broody(prompted by hormones), she's broody and will set on nothing. If she's not broody, she'll keep laying and keep walking away.

Not sure if that's true of guineas.....might want to ask in the guinea forum.
