My 5 1/2 month old Buff Orp laid her first egg sometime in the last 24 hours. She'd been doing the squat/song thing for over a week so I'd been expecting it. Now she is acting kind of weird. Very vocal (more than usual) and sits in the coop off and on making these little dove-like, cooing noises. Is she broody? I removed the egg--it had a thin, leathery shell that got punctured. She's also acting kind of like a "loner", rather than hanging out with the other two chickens although she is approaching ME much more often now than she did before. Normal? Broody? Sick?
